Full Time

The laboratory of Zuzana Tothova, MD, PhD is a multi-disciplinary team of physician scientists, scientists and computational biologists at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our laboratory uses genomics and a range of molecular and cellular biological techniques to elucidate the molecular basis of cancer and hematologic disorders and to develop novel therapeutics. Our specific focus is to understand the role of chromatin modifiers and epigenetic factors and find novel therapeutic opportunities in myeloid malignancies, including myelodysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia. A full-time Staff scientist position is available in the laboratory of Zuzana Tothova, MD, Ph.D. at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Responsibilities:

  • Technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought. Works on problems of moderate to large scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors.

  • Design, conduct, and troubleshoot hypothesis-testing experiments. Design, conduct, and validate high-throughput, hypothesis-generating screens. Train and oversee the lab work of research technicians and students in the group.
  • Maintain detailed and understandable lab notebooks. Interpret and discuss research findings with lab members and the principal investigator.
  • Use existing computational tools to analyze complex data sets, including next generation sequencing data sets, and/or fluently and effectively collaborate with computational biologists to accomplish this.
  • Develop figures to depict research findings, write research and review papers, and present at scientific meetings.

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have a major influence in setting the tone for an intellectually engaging, rigorous, productive, and positive lab environment. They will be provided with significant intellectual freedom and ample opportunities to form collaborations and develop a national and international reputation in the field of myeloid neoplasms.
  • Accomplished and motivated candidates with at least 6 years of experience and an advanced degree in biomedical sciences and significant experience in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and cell biology are encouraged to apply.
  • Technical skills in molecular biology, cell culturing techniques, and protein biochemistry are essential.
  • Experience generating and using complex datasets (e.g., CRISPR-Cas9 forward genetic screens) or experience with MDS/leukemia mouse disease models are highly desirable.
  • A background in the pathobiology of myeloid neoplasms is not required and can be ‘learned on the job’.
  • Clear thinking, writing, and communication skills are absolutely needed. A record of scientific accomplishment as shown by peer-reviewed original research papers is required.
  • Master's degree with relevant experience or Ph.D.
