PhD student (f/m/d) on the topic “Spatially resolved single or few ion implantations for quantum technology”

The Institute for Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research is dedicated to the study of materials and their nanostructures that can be considered for future applications in information technology and are based on electrical, magnetic or optical functionalities.

As part of the Institute, the Ion Beam Centre invites applications asPhD student (f/m/d) on the topic “Spatially resolved single or few ion implantations for quantum technology”.

The position will be available at the earliest possible date. The employment contract is limited to three years.

Your tasks:

#

Investigate the technical requirements for the successful realization of single or few ion implants


#

Development of a detector suitable for the detection of single ion implantation events


#

Fabrication and characterization of liquid metal alloy ion sources for local implantation


#

Generation of defects and color centers as single photon emitters and implantation of 5th main group elements as donor qubits for quantum technology applications


#

Optical and electrical characterization of single doping atoms and ion-induced defects, e.g., by means of cathodoluminescence

Your profile:

# Very good graduated degree (Diploma / Master) in Physics, Material Science or similar degree in natural sciences
#

Experience in conducting experimental work and the ability to build delicate devices


#

Experience in the application of charged particle beams and vacuum technology


#

Programming knowledge for example in C++, Python, LabView, Matlab or Java


#

Very good teamwork skills with ability to collaborate both with experimentalists and theorists


#

Very good English language skills (spoken and written)
